FAQ
How does the coffee waste calculator work?
It calculates: monthly visits × average price × 12 months × years = total spending. The investment opportunity cost uses an annuity formula — as if you invested that annual amount at your chosen return rate, compounded yearly.
What is opportunity cost?
Opportunity cost is what you could have gained by using that money elsewhere. For example, investing ₩110,000/month at 7% annual return for 10 years grows to about ₩19 million.
Is a 7% annual return realistic?
The long-term average for the S&P 500 is around 10%, and the Korean stock market averages about 7–8%. We use 7% as a conservative default, but you can adjust it freely.
What if I drink more than one cup a day?
Enter cups per day × 30 as your monthly visits. For example, 2 cups/day = 60 monthly visits.
Should I quit coffee?
This calculator is meant to visualize the financial scale of a habit. Coffee also provides enjoyment and productivity benefits — the goal is awareness and balance, not guilt.
What are the cost benchmarks for trips and MacBooks?
Europe round-trip is estimated at ₩6 million (flights + 7 nights + expenses). MacBook Pro benchmark is ₩3 million.
