FAQ
How does the cigarette cost calculator work?
It calculates: (daily cigarettes ÷ 20) × pack price = daily cost, then × 30 × 12 × years = total spending. The investment opportunity cost uses an annuity formula — as if you invested that annual amount at your chosen return rate, compounded yearly.
What is opportunity cost?
Opportunity cost is what you could have gained by using that money elsewhere. For example, investing ₩200,000/month at 7% annual return for 20 years grows to over ₩100 million.
Is a 7% annual return realistic?
The long-term average for the S&P 500 is around 10%, and the Korean stock market averages about 7–8%. We use 7% as a conservative default, but you can adjust it freely.
Can I calculate for e-cigarettes?
Yes! Select 'E-Cig · 8,000' from the pack price presets, or enter a custom amount. The calculation is based on cartridge equivalent pricing.
Why is 5 minutes used per cigarette?
A typical cigarette takes 4–7 minutes to smoke. We use 5 minutes as an average that includes preparation and disposal time.
What are the cost benchmarks for trips and MacBooks?
Europe round-trip is estimated at ₩6 million (flights + 7 nights + expenses). MacBook Pro benchmark is ₩3 million.
Can I share my result with someone?
Yes! Your inputs are saved in the URL, so anyone you share the link with will see the exact same values and results.
